OUR NETWORK
Clearwire Has More Spectrum Than Anyone
Our 4G network spans the nation and covers over 130 million people in approximately 80 U.S. markets. We’re a leader in 4G mobile internet and our speed and service is the direct result of our spectrum advantage. And in the 4G space, spectrum is what matters most.
Spectrum is the foundation on which a wireless network is built. The more spectrum a network has, the bigger the network’s pipe and the greater its ability to move large amounts of data. Our spectrum position allows us to utilize a wider range of channels than the competition.
Think of it like the number of lanes on a freeway. We have more lanes, so we can move more traffic.
The 3 Advantages of Spectrum
Speed
4G means fast. And we certainly are with average download speeds of 3-6 Mbps. Plus we firmly believe that in the future our spectrum advantage will allow us to provide people with the fastest 4G LTE service in the U.S.

Capacity
While speed is important, capacity is what really matters. Our spectrum resources allow us to handle the high demand for many megabytes of data we know customers want.
Value
Because our 4G network has so much capacity, we can offer customers a great price. And because our network is open, we support the most 4G devices in the industry, giving consumers the freedom to use the devices and applications they want, wherever they go.
Our Spectrum Backstory
In 1963, the Education Broadband Service (EBS) was designated for use by schools, universities and non-profits. But the spectrum wasn't utilized much by these public organizations. So after careful consideration, the FCC approved commercial use of the EBS spectrum. This opened the door for companies like Clearwire to lease or purchase 2.5 GHz spectrum licenses
Then in 2007, Clearwire significantly expanded its position by purchasing a large chunk of spectrum in the Southeast from AT&T, making us the second largest holder of 2.5 GHz spectrum in the U.S.
And finally, with the merger of Clearwire and Sprint's 4G business in 2008, we increased our spectrum holdings far beyond any other provider in the country.
